Firevault backed the first CBN CyberSummit at Bird and Bird, joining Baroness Liz Lloyd, Alison Griffiths MP and CNI leaders on the future of UK cyber resilience.
On Tuesday 23 June, Firevault was proud to sponsor the first Cybersecurity Business Network CyberSummit, hosted at Bird and Bird in London. The full-day forum brought government, regulators, CNI leaders and the UK cyber sector into one room to work through the questions that matter most for national resilience.
Four themes for the day
The programme was built around four themes:
- Threats to UK business and Critical National Infrastructure
- Strengthening organisational resilience
- Innovation, opportunity and growth
- Advocacy and policy
Ministerial keynote from Baroness Liz Lloyd
The day opened with a keynote and delegate questions from Baroness Liz Lloyd, Minister at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. The Minister set out the direction of UK cyber policy and made a clear case for continued industry engagement as the threat picture evolves. It was an opening that set the tone for the rest of the day: this is a shared problem, and the response has to be practical.
Strengthening Resilience panel
The keynote was followed by the Strengthening Resilience panel, chaired by Alison Griffiths MP, Officer of the APPG for Cyber Innovation. The panel examined the evolving UK threat landscape, the economic and operational consequences of cyber incidents and the practical steps organisations must take to improve their resilience. The recurring theme was that resilience is now a board-level concern, not a technical one.
The CNI Leaders Hour
A major highlight was the CNI Leaders Hour, featuring:
- Tom Clementi, Chief Executive Officer of Pool Re insurance company
- Ashish Khanna, Managing Director of Cyber Security Services at Verizon Business
- Stuart Okin, Director of Cyber Regulation and Emerging Technologies at Ofgem
The session brought cyber insurance, real-world threat evidence and regulatory oversight to the same table. It explored how organisations can better understand the financial and operational consequences of cyber incidents, improve security standards and strengthen resilience across essential services. The message from the room was consistent: assumptions that used to hold about insurability, recovery time and regulatory tolerance no longer hold.
DSIT workshop and closing panel
The afternoon included a DSIT workshop on building resilience together and a final panel examining the systems required across security, incident response, recovery and economic protection. The workshop format gave delegates the chance to test policy proposals against operational reality, which is exactly what a summit like this should do.
The Firevault takeaway
Our key takeaway from the day: Detection tells you something is happening. Control determines how far it can travel.
Every session, in one form or another, came back to the same point. Detection has improved. Response times have improved. What has not improved fast enough is the design of what an attacker can reach once they are inside.
